Shaving soap and aftershave?

I have good information the razor, blades and brush but I'm finding a lot of recommendations about the soap and aftershave are very personal. The same products get very high and very low reviews. So I come to you for advice on shaving soap and aftershave.
What kind do you like? Why that brand? What should I avoid?
