All hands aloft!

I must stop browsing Craig's List boat pages! I keep finding things I want. Instead I should be working, but I just can't bring myself to scour through 200 pages of schematics.

At least you've moved on from books to buy! :) All you said was that your "book allowance" was gone. I'm not helping am I? :)

I don't have a boat allowance. At least not yet... Oh Wren! :D

LOL! I think she's more likely to up the book allowance than to add a boat allowance, but maybe you've been a really good bear. Who am I to say?! :)

Some of those look like fun. If you ever get something, I'd love to help fix it up.

DO NOT ENCOURAGE HIM. Harrumph.

[identity profile] hollyking.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Encourage me! Encourage me!

Oh no, that isn't how it works. We all get to be wonderfuly insane together because we encourage each other to do insane things. It's a beautiful little feedback loop that makes our lives very, very interesting.

Well now that you mention it I've been thinking about asking you about just such a project. ;)

I'd love it. I've been meaning to learn sailing for a long time, and I think I'm going to have to postpone the Lady Washington until after the Mongol Rally for vacation hoarding reasons. Think you'll need anything blacksmithed? That would be extra keen.

With the kind of boat I want there will be lots of opportunities for blacksmithing. I will also need to learn bronze casting for some of the fittings. Woodworking for the mast, decks and hull. Marlinspike skills for the rigging. Sewing for the sails. Not to mention all the astronomy and mathematics for navigation.

Hmmm... This could easily overwhelm all my other hobbies. I guess it's a good thing that there are so many skills I want to learn involved in doing it right.

Ooooh, bronze casting. I haven't done much myself, but I'm familar with the process and a propane-fired furnace for melting bronze (or copper, brass, and aluminum -- but emphatically not iron) is basically my little blacksmithing forge turned up on one end. Not saying we'd get great casts immediately, but the setup would be fairly easy.

Pretty boats. Perfect sea-sick delivery devices.

You know our peeps lived in Anacortes. And, actually, our dad's buried there. 'Cus inquiring minds, you know...

You're my Mr. Incredible

Boats! :D And so much icon love. :)

Dammit man! Didn't you JUST get this job????
HAHAHA!!!

[identity profile] hollyking.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a contract gig. It sucks rocks and I *won't* be staying once the contract ends. I could love my job I still don't relish the thought of 200 page schematic diagrams.

And it's boats!!! Whee!

Oooh! I need a "silly girls" icon now. ;)
