The Lord of the Rings (All of It!)

That's my reading goal for 2010. To read all of the Lord of the Rings “trilogy”. That's a lot of pages in there. I wonder...

Book Pages Read Left % Complete
Totals 7,875 156 7,824 1.98%
The Hobbit 276 156 120 56.52%
The Lord of the Rings 1,157 1,157 0.00%
The Silmarillion 365 365 0.00%
The Book of Lost Tales Part One 297 297 0.00%
The Book of Lost Tales Part Two 385 385 0.00%
The Lays of Belleriand 393 393 0.00%
The Shaping of Middle Earth 380 380 0.00%
The Lost Road and Other Writings 455 455 0.00%
The Return of the Shadow 497 497 0.00%
The War of the Ring 476 476 0.00%
The Treason of Isengard 504 504 0.00%
Sauron Defeated 482 482 0.00%
Morgoth’s Ring 471 471 0.00%
The War of the Jewels 470 470 0.00%
The Peoples of Middle-Earth 482 482 0.00%
The Children of Hùrin 313 313 0.00%
Unfinished Tales of Nùmenor and Middle-Earth 472 472 0.00%

That’s a grand total of 7,875 pages. To finish it during the year I'll have to average 22 pages per day. It will be a bit of a stretch but a goal I don't mind reaching to achieve. Now I just have to come up with some spiffy graphic to chart my progress.

Wow, and I couldn't even finish The Hobbit!

BTW, you may enjoy I Fell Asleep (Reading The Silmarillion) :)

I know a lot of people who don’t enjoy LotR, [livejournal.com profile] hollyqueen for example, but I still feel the same thrill I reading the books as I did when I swiped Charlie’s copies and read them under the sheets after I should have been asleep.

Oh that is funny. We'll see if I can stay awake. :)

I can only read about two pages a day of "RotK" before nodding out. Don't get me wrong, I *love* the mythology and story, but the backstory (letting us know over 5 pages a particular character's lineage, for example), especially when it isn't telling to the story or why a character is motivated to do something, is filler that bores me. And don't get me started when they break into song more often than an Elvis movie.

Speaking of Elvis....
