Fall Fun

Well it's the first full day of fall. The time of the Holly King begins now and I can feel the return of winter on the edge of my consciousness.

Soon hollyqueen will be going back to school, so I'll have two evenings a week to fill. I can't spend all that time gaming. Well, I could, but I shouldn’t. I've been thinking about becoming active on the air again. My local ARES group has meetings and nets on Tuesday nights and I always had fun while working with them.

I also want to rejoin the NTS nets and see if I can qualify for the Public Service Honor Roll. I've qualified a couple of months, but not enough in a row to make the honor roll.

I was checking the ARRL home page and found a new toy! Elecraft is about to release the KX1, an ultra-light, multi-band CW station with an internal battery. Mmmm... Of course, my current license doesn't allow me to transmit on the 20m or 40m bands. So I'll have to spend some time learning CW (Morse Code) and MFJ Enterprises sells a nice bundle for that purpose. The MFJ-554X contains a CW oscillator, a speaker, a key and a wall adaptor to power the whole mess. I guess I know what I'm going to get myself for my birthday.

I guess the other night I'll have to spend learning German.
