Yesterday I went on a book buying binge at Powell's Technical Books. I needed to pick up some references about writing daemons in Perl. Sadly the two books that had been referred to me didn't pan out. Sure, they covered the steps necessary to make my program run as a daemon. What they didn't cover was how to control the program after it became a daemon. I need it to be able to reload parameters and shutdown gracefully when necessary. I did pick up The Pragmatic Programmer, The Perl CD Bookshelf, v4.0, JavaScript Pocket Reference and The Friar and the Cipher.

While I was there I also picked up a copy of Technica, the newsletter of Powell's Technical Books. A few minutes ago I was looking at the crowd of people on the cover and I saw [livejournal.com profile] loree and myself in the crowd, and I can make out some of [livejournal.com profile] hollyqueen's hair between us. The three of us went there to attend a reading by Wil Wheaton.
