...And Justice Shall Prevail

After a (not) fun game of phone tag I was able to get in touch with my case manager at the Oregon Department of Justice. My ex-wife made a claim that I wasn't making my support payments. There isn't a department that handles support payments so the Child Support Enforcement department handles also those cases. This is why the letter talks about child support payments. Charlene, my case manager, let me know that they had closed the case and were refusing to progress any further.

hollyqueen was an angel last night and all the messages from my friends helped me overcome my depression, but now I'm angry. So very, very angry. This isn't the first time that my ex has filed some claim against me to screw with my life. It had better be the last or I will begin to retaliate.

Last Friday on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno a pair of Morse code operators smoked the pants off the current holder of the speed record for sending a text message via SMS. The ARRL has a an article about the event and some more links to explore on their website.

Just another case of newer isn't necessarily better. Not only is Morse code faster it has a much higher reliability. If you lose some of the transmission you can still read the rest of the message. With SMS if you lose part of the transmission you lose the entire message. I'm not saying that we should drop SMS and make everyone start using Morse code. I'm just saying that we should keep the CW only bands to provide a place for people to practice their Morse code skills.
