No more cars!
Jun. 26th, 2005 09:19 pmGah! This weekend hollyqueen and I went to Victoria, BC to the Tall Ship Festival and we had a great time. Coming home this morning we didn't have any plans or anyplace we needed to be today so we took a scenic route home that took us quite out of the way. Instead of heading south down US-101 from Port Angeles we went west and then south. This took us through some very pretty scenery and the very beautiful Crescent lake. Unlike US 101 in Oregon you don't get to see much of the acutal coastline. Most of the highway is in the forest and valleys.
We crossed into Oregon at Astoria and had to make another decision. Our options were to follow US-101 south to Cannon Beach and then take US-26 east; follow US-30 east along the Columbia river; or take US-202 south-east to Vernonia then US 47 south and head east on US-26. We chose the third option because that was the one we hadn't driven before. There was quite a bit of beautiful scenery but the road hasn't been maintained in a very long time. We were so alone on US-202 that it wasn't hard to imagine being the only humans to pass this way in decades.
Instead of taking the usual five hours to get back from Port Angeles, we were on the road nearly nine hours. Egad! I don't want to do that again anytime soon. In fact, I have some photos from the festival, but the camera is in the car and I'm not going to get it. Sorry, but you'll just have to wait until tomorrow when I get home from work and bring in the camera for me to post the pictures.
I'm going to go flop on the couch and watch anything that doesn't involve driving. Oh, I finally caught the first episode of the new Doctor Who. I like it!
