What a difference a few minutes makes. There was a lot more traffic on the drive in this morning. Still plenty of room in the parking garage so it was easy to find a space and get to my first tutorial on time. Go me!

First up this morning was Damian Conway talking about Perl Best Practices. I found a lot of good information in the talk. I agree with Damian that the key isn't handing down coding standards as law, but creating an set of standards that everyone in the group will follow. The true mastery I see comes from not following the rules, but from knowing when the rules don't apply and should be abandoned. Always with comments though. Not everyone who reads your code understands your thoughts when you wrote it, heck even I don't understand my thoughts when I go back and review my own code.

Lunch today was at Sushi Mania, a local place that uses a Pufferfish on their logo. So far no paralysis or other ill effects... ;) After lunch I stopped at the Powell's store they have set up in the conference hall. To go with Perl Best Practicies, which finally arrived, I picked up: Perl Testing: A Developers Notebook and Advanced Perl Programming. My backpack is getting far too heavy...

The afternoon tutorial is Perl Best Object Oriented Practices also by Damian Conway. It's just a Perl/Damian filled day, isn't it?
