New Year's Walk

hollyqueen went on our first volksmarch event, the Emerald City Wanderers (ECW) New Year's Day walk in West Seattle. There was a 10K option but as it was our first walk we opted for the 5K route. I really enjoyed the walk as we had some magnificent views of Seattle and there were some interesting houses along the way.
One aspect of walking on an event sponsored by an American Volkssport Association (AVA) club, such as the ECW, is that you can get credit for the number of events and the distance you cover. At certain points you turn in your record books and you get a certificate, patch and the next book for credit. Just walking for credit costs $3/walk and as a beginner I picked up a New Walkers packet for $5 which included coupons for my first three walks.
