Oh, the weather outside is frightful!

When I was seven I really wanted it to snow. So much so in fact that I wrote a little poem. Here it is in all it's rhyming glory:
Up from where the penguin waddles,
Down from where the caribou butts,
Let the snow fall to the ground,
'Til it's up to my nuts.
I repeated it over and over trying to force my will and make it snow. There was sledding and making snowmen and snowball fights with Carl, Ray, Leo and Malika. Not to mention the outside chance that they would cancel school. I don't remember if it worked that year or not.
Years later it did work. I don't remember what year exactly but it had to be between 1988 and 1990. I know that much because I was living with my mom just off of Broadway. I was bored and wishing for snow so I signed on to every BBS in the city and posted a message with my little snow poem. That night we had a huge blizzard and I woke up to a winter wonderland. I also woke up to a few hundred angry replies from other folks who read my message and didn't care for the result.
As my social circle changed and I made new friends I would find that they had seen my message. Most people laughed about it but some, who lived in the rural areas, were still a mite bitter. theslice might even have a copy of the message in a backup somewhere. If he wasn't running a BBS at the time I know he was an active user. It would be cool to get a copy if one still existed somewhere.
So remember. Be careful what you wish for. You might get it and a ton of angry messages too.
Up from where the penguin waddles...
