Things to Do

Here's a list of things I need to explore/find once I'm in Seattle. In no particular order they are:
- Balance Point Physical Therapy - I need to fix the issues with my ankles because the pain make me just sit here instead of getting out like I want.
tylik recommended them to someone in the
bphaf community and they sound close so there's a great place to start.
- Taiji school/classes- I would like to find someone who teaches Taiji as a martial art. I bet
tylik could help me with that too.
- Daoist Temple - A simple place to go meditate and explore Daoism.
- Sailing classes - The Center for Wooden Boats has some classes. But why limit myself?
- Kayaking classes/club - I've found a few on the web but I need to attend a meeting or two to see if I'm a fit.
- Cigar lounge - I like the occasional Monte Cristo and it's much easier to go somewhere and buy a single than keep my own stock.
- Tea house - Who doesn't need to visit a tea house from time to time?
- Pub - By pub I mean a place where friends can go have a few drinks and talk. Loud music an dance floors are not wanted in a pub.
That's all I can think of right now. Back to packing.

Date: 2006-05-28 09:05 pm (UTC)I'll be looking for someplace that does traditional tea ceremonies in the future, but Soul Food Books sounds like just the ticket. Plus I can get more books. ;)
Walking distance to a pub. Excellent!

Date: 2006-05-28 10:06 pm (UTC)135-160 loose leaf teas on the shelf, depending on season. Classes from time to time, nice place to sit and visit and drink REALLY good tea.
Tell Elisabeth I sent you :>

Date: 2006-05-29 04:34 am (UTC)PT -- if Balance Point turns out not to be the place for you, I could recommend a few others. For a while I was on a mission to meet every physical therapist in the Seattle area... for that matter, what's up with your ankles, and could I poke at them at some time? I'm not a physical therapist (though I've gotten referrals from PTs ;-) ) but I do have a background in biomechanics, and am generally curious.
Taiji -- we should talk more about what you're looking for. (And I should be wearing clothes at the time.)
Daoist Temple -- you need to check out the Taoist Studies Institute.
I need to do some more boating stuff myself... (I aspire to commute by kayak.)
Tea House -- there are local places that do traditional tea ceremonies. Kuan Yin is generally highly thought of, though they don't do much for me. I mostly buy tea from World Spice. I'm fond of Shinka's, though I don't go there often (but they also have free wifi, and make a good spicey soy hot chocolate -- oh, and many of the patrons speak chinese, always a plus). There are a couple english style tea places in redmond that are quite entertaining if you like that sort of thing.
Pub -- Most of the biomed labs hang out at the college inn pub. I used to be fond of the hopvine on cap hill. Er. I don't really drink much.

Commuting by kayak is an interesting idea. I know there's water behind the office where I'll be working. I wonder if it connects anywhere. That is of course assuming I end up living on the water at the other end.

Date: 2006-05-29 05:44 am (UTC)I'm usually willing to talk Taiji. I will be even moreso after the quarter ends.
Where are you working again?
