I enjoy socializing over a game of cards. A long time ago I used to play quite often with friends. I joke about majoring in Spades when I was in college but I certainly studied the game more than I did my classwork. I’ve missed it and I want to play again. I want to play enough that I’m willing to host games, teach games and learn any new games people would like to play.

Some of the games I know and like to play are Spades, Whist, Hearts, Gin Rummy, Rummy. My favorite is Whist, which is very similar to Spades, but I enjoy them all. I find Pagat is a great source for rules and information about card games.

Would you be interested in getting together once a month for an evening of cards? A group of four can play a round of games in a couple of hours which fits nicely into a week night which might otherwise be idle.

Nope, I haven't heard of that before.

It's a two-deck game, and you need a lot of players to keep hand sizes manageable. It's played just like regular hearts but with one minor change: if two of the same card are played on a trick, they cancel each other out as far as taking the trick goes (the points still count).

So if I played the queen of spades, the next guy played the two of spades, you played the four of spades, and the guy after you played the other queen, you'd take both queens. On a four. This has happened to me.

It's an evil game. Lots of fun. I've never seen anyone shoot the moon while playing it, either.

That does sound evil. But it also sounds like a lot of fun.

I loved Spades in college, but I haven't played in, well, possibly decades. Wow, now I feel old. In any case, I'd love to play again, depending of course on logistical complications (mostly Alex).

I'd be potentially interested in cards, but not so much spades. Poker or Sheepshead or possibly even bridge (although I'd have to relearn), though.

Bridge is big in my family, but I've never learned. I suck at Poker. A lot. It comes from having to play the people instead of the cards. :)

wow!

I know and like most of these games though I haven't played them in at least 5 years if not 10! This sounds like a lot of fun-I used to be quite good at Gin and fairly good at hearts and spades...let me know when you plan a game night!

I'd be in. Miss the Texas Hold-'em card nights (more about the card than the poker) with Brian.

Have you ever heard of Russian Rummy, or Tripoli? Those are the biggies in my family. the three games that make up Tripoli being Hearts, Michigan Rummy and Poker is muy fun for up to 9 and Russian Rummy is a two deck rummy that is best in groups of four

I would love to play, but I'd have to learn, too. I was raised playing hand and foot, a weird version of Canasta, so never got exposed to any of these. :)

I don't mind teaching people to play. It will be fun!
