[livejournal.com profile] hollyqueen and I have been working long and hard on fixing our finances and getting out of debt. We have too many credit cards and haven’t really been responsible with our money. Well last November that ended and together we’ve made changes to how we live, developed a plan of action and, most importantly, followed through with that plan. I’m excited that we’ve paid off our first card. Not only that but we kept on budget so that we have our fun money. It’s been a long time since the two of us were able to get away together and just relax.

The trick now is to figure out where we want to go. We were thinking of going to Langley because we’ve never been and their Chamber of Commerce says they have a lot of book stores. I’m not set on Langley though. What I would really like to find is a remote place with a few good shops to browse and food to eat. Any recommendations?

At The Motley Fool, we call for a "Happy Dance" when a card is paid off.
And you did tell them to close the card, and mark it "closed as card holders request", yes? that always looks better on the credit reports.

Congrats and many more happy dances in your future.

Not yet, I'm still undecided on closing the account. I've read conflicting advice about whether it's better to close the account or to leave it open and unused. The benefit is that an open account with no balance lowers your debt/credit ratio which can help your credit rating.

Thanks!

Friday Harbor is a nice weekend vacation, although I don't know offhand how non-pilots get there. There might be a ferry?

Yes, the ferry from Anacortes stops at Friday Harbor and Lopez, Shaw and Orcas islands. You can even get to Sidney B.C. from there.

I can guess how pilots get there, but what about non-pilot friends of pilots? ;)

we're big fans of port townsend. it's about (on the less than side of about) an hour drive from the Kingston ferry terminal.

I like Langley, it's a quaint little artsy town. Have you guys never been to Whidbey, or just Langley?

I've never been to either one. I don't know about [livejournal.com profile] hollyqueen.

Whidbey Island is beautiful, and small enough to drive around even if you're mainly visiting Langley.
