In the 80's there was a fun movie called Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985). It was stupid, but fun. For example, Joel Grey plays Chiun, an 80 year old Korean. As [livejournal.com profile] hollyqueen said, "were there no asian actors in Hollywood?"

I just read that there is a remake in the works. I bet they'll try to be serious.

I remember Joel Grey said no at first for that very same reason, lol.

The could call it Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (We Really Mean It This Time).

Say, could Fred Ward play Chiun this time?

Fred is shorter than Joel Grey so he wouldn't have to wear platform shoes this time.

There were Asian actors in the 80s, but they were regulated to stereotypical roles. Not that much has changed in the 00s.

But shouldn't Asian actors play Asian characters? Even if it is a stereotypical role? Elderly master of a foreign martial art that gives it's students abilities beyond normal humans, such as walking across water. "You must run. Very fast."
