September will be here soon and that means it's almost time for 2009's National Preparedness Month. Unlike past years I'm not going to make a grand plan which I'll feel bad about not completing. I do plan on posting about it during the month. Yay for lowered expectations...

Beyond my blowing into the wind, are there any topics anyone would like me to cover? Have any questions about how to prepare or what to do to prepare? Let me know and I'll write up what I can.

I started an emergency food stash last year, I'd like your opinion on what to have. I don't think that the communists are going to invade or anything, but blizzards and tornadoes do have the potential of knocking out services for several days. I figured a 3 day supply, which can be stretched if things look bad. Ours is simple, a 3 day supply of water (I've heard a gallon per household member per day, so about 12 gallons), several cans of soup or stew, a flat of ramen. I'm looking into simple folding camp stoves that I can use with about 4 candles to heat up water or soup. Besides the small stove I need to put my candles and matches with the food stash. I have it set up so that I can rotate out the stuff every year or so, I remember during Y2K someone said that there wont' be any global disaster but having a couple days food on hand is always a good idea, but make sure you actually like the foods you stockpile or your disaster will suck even more. Plus it's easier to rotate out foods you like.

A big topic around here is about another kind of disaster: pandemic where buildings are fine, but we're all told to stay home--in other words, there's a limit on the number of service-oriented businesses operating. How much can we do remotely?

I haven't given that much thought. Let me do some research and I'll see what I can dig up. Thanks!
