At the Seattle ACS meeting last night we talked a bit about the potential for flooding in the Green River valley. I have several friends who live in the area that would be affected by this. Please, take some time and prepare yourselves. You are all too important to me.

I am here if you need any help or information about how to prepare.

Kind of glad I live on a large hill in Tukwila and that I renewed the items in my car & home emergency preparedness kits when I was working at Boeing...

In 1993 I lived on a hill a few miles from the Missouri river. At the height of the flooding that year I had to abandon my home because while we were dry on the hill the water, sewage and power stations were all under water and we had no services for a few months. Just sayin... ;)

There's a big difference between the Green river and the Missouri river. I have friends houses I can stay at if it comes to that. I used to live next to a creek when I lived in Issaquah and have dealt with flooding before...

Besides, the bigger issue for me will be if the condo I'm living in slides off the hill with a big old mudslide onto Interurban. They *still* haven't opened up the part of the parking lot where my space is from the last mudslide...

yeah... its definitely something to be watching for. being on the hill I wont have the direct flooding problems, being septic I wont have the direct sewer problems, but there will definitely be lots of secondary problems that we could be effected by.

Exactly. Now is the time to lay in your supplies so you are ready if something should happen.

Yup..

if the damn goes, your blown.

Almost all of all food distribution for all of the grocery stores in the Seatac area will be flooded. They are all in the Kent valley. *cough*

Auburn, Kent, Tukwilla.. yea good times.

Rain's on the case with the City of Tukwilla if you need additional feedback.

Not to mention pharmaceutical suppliers used by the hospitals and medical services.

Many communications, power and data lines are in the flood affected area too. These lines serve thousands of customers who are not in the valley.

I don't know that there is enough sewage treatment capacity for the region if the Renton plant, on the banks of the Green River is shut down.

Exactly. Flooding, or another form of disaster, effects more than the immediate scene. Taking out infrastructure can cause a disruption over a much larger area.
