In honor of Chuck Fowler and Captain Mark Freeman’s new book “Tugboats on Puget Sound,” the Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society is having an event this Saturday! Come on down to the former Naval Reserve Armory in Lake Union Park to tour FIVE historic tugs: the ELMORE, the BLUEBERRY, the HENRIETTA FOSS, the GRACE, and the ARTHUR FOSS. The boats will be open to the public on Saturday February 8th from 1pm until 5pm.

You might remember me talking about the ARTHUR FOSS. That’s boat I volunteer on giving tours and answering questions. I’ll be down there part of the day and I invite you all to come see these beautiful boats. I’m going to guess we’ll have enough hosts that we’ll have the engine room open on the ARTHUR FOSS which gives you photographers access to a diesel engine built in 1934. We might even start it up and you can hear it chugging away.

I’ve mentioned this to a few people who were interested and I promised I would post the details so there’s no better time like the present.

Last September I participated in the “Engineer for a Day” workshop at the Center for Wooden Boats. I had an absolute blast and I highly recomend the workshop to anyone who has an interest in big engines, boats and getting dirty. During the workshop you actually prepare the big diesel engine on the Arthur Foss and start it up.

Well they’re having the same workshop twice this year. The first one is April 14th and the next one is December 1st. There are more details on the CWB website.

GAAAAAH!

Never just browse Craig's list unless you have the funds to grab the deals.

Fire it up!

Yesterday I read a post in [livejournal.com profile] seattle about being an engineer for a day on the tugboat Arthur Foss. So today I joined the Center for Wooden Boats, registered for the event and found out that there is a chance to spend the night on the boat. I LOVE THIS TOWN!

I've wasted far too much time today looking at sail boats, kayaks and local boat related websites. I did find quite a few place I want to go visit. Needless to say this isn't helping me to get any work done on a Friday afternoon.

For starters I want to visit every site that's part of the Maritime Heritage Network. That should keep me busy for a few weeks.

The photos from the trip [livejournal.com profile] hollyqueen and I took to the Victoria Tall Ship festival have been posted in our gallery. I hope you enjoy them.

In the new issue of Sail I found a contest to win a Hunter 216 from Hunter Marine. The downside is I have to write a letter explaining why I want to win the boat and what I would do with it if I won. Oh, and there's the little bit about going to the 2005 Annapolis Sailboat Show to "pick up the keys" (the quotes are verbatim from the ad) in early October. A small price to pay I suppose...
