Sigh

Sigh. I saw [livejournal.com profile] loree's post about that great dress so I started looking around for something for me to wear to [livejournal.com profile] tithonium's birthday. A friend pointed me to Drac-in-a-Box and The Dark Angel. Two sites that have a lot of things I want but aren't in my size.

Does anyone know of a place a big guy could get clothes that don't look like my Mom bought them or I'm 95 and headed for the golf course?

Or if you know someone who makes clothes like this and wouldn't mind making a few bucks I can pay.

It won't help you get anything by the party, but I'd suggest stopping by some of the costuming panels at [livejournal.com profile] norwescon. There are frequently a number of pros and skilled amateurs in attendance.

That's my plan for this year. ;) When I was browsing the schedule I kept reminding myself that I'm not a writer so I should go to other panels where I would get something out of them. Costuming was the priority on my list of things to attend.

Here are a couple of places, the first I have not actually dealt with yet, but know someone who has and they like them

This place sells 501 shrink to fits in big sizes as well

JC Penny has some decent stuff in the stores as well.

I shop at King Size a lot and also use Daddy-O's and a few other places online. They are great for casual and club shirts, but aren't really the goth/victorian look I am going for this time.

Surprisingly Fred Meyer's has a lot of stuff in my size that's high quality.

I might be able to. Do you just want the shirt and frock coat or do you need pants as well?

Ooh! Pants are easier for me because not having any extra baggage in my legs means that I can wear "normal" sizes. However, to match it might need pants too.

Pants are harder for me to do without being the one to personally measure, which is why I asked. The measurements of your shoulders, chest, and waist should be fairly easy for me to explain. Leg/groin measurements are a bitch for me ;)

No worries. I know a few costumers who are local that I might be able to bribe into helping with measurements.

You even know someone who's *not* a costumer who knows how to do measurements, and who'd be more than happy to help.

Got one of those. I need to iron out the wrinkles and find a belt to keep it up and a shirt that fits.

I did some research. I have done a frock coat before, but never on a plus sized person. I have made other plus sized garments, however
Doing some patter research
I could easily get this one

or

I have this one

If your lovely wiff could do some measurements for me, its quite possible I could alter these patterns to work.

Oooh! I think the second frock coat fits more with my vision, but I wouldn't say no to any of it.

Do you have my email/contact info? If not beat Trin to give it to you. Let us know what we need and I'll make sure to get you the info.

I will do some research this weekend on the shirt and coat materiels. The brocade shouldn't be too terrible this time of year (No one buys brocade in the spring) but the notions will be expensive, and I'll want a good lining. Also, you will want high quality breathable cotton for the shirt. I'll tally things up and see what we're looking at, cost-wise

I did a little research and I found a pretty good pattern to bastardize, I think
http://www.lafnmoon.com/frock_coat.html

I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but its looking like for shirt, vest and frock coat, materials are going to be between $120-140. As for labor, you just pay me what you feel good about. I'm only a costumer, afterall, and only a B rated one at that ;)

How soon do you need it done by? Do you have a measuring tape? ;)

That looks good to me.

Well within my imaginary budget. ;)

In an imaginary world Saturday, but realistically before October would be great. Somewhere but if not I can easily pick up one.

Oh dear, no chance by this Saturday. I could have it done by May or June, though.

I sent you an email with questions to clarify what you wanted measured. Did you not get it?

Oh. Hmm. I'm looking and I'm not finding :( Perhaps it wound up in my spam filter somehow? Tell you what, send it to my gmail, llarken@gmail.com

That email has far less traffic
